Today marks the 40th anniversary of Chernobyl. If you were a kid in Mexico between 1986 & 1988, you got fed radioactive milk🍼 A radioactive cloud traveled to Ireland & radioactive elements rained down into the grass fields that dairy cows ate. The cow's milk was shipped in powdered form to Mexico. Mexico was nowhere close to the nuclear accident, but Mexicans still got hit directly by the nuclear fallout through imported radioactive milk powder from Ireland. The Mexican authorities did eventually realize out that the milk was contaminated by Cesium and other radioactive elements, but decided to keep selling the milk because of corruption. There were even attempts to dilute the milk to reduce the radioactivity but it did not work. So if you were a dumb diaper wearing baby, toddler, kid, or adult who drank milk in Mexico, your risk of cancer went up. Between 1987 and 1997 childhood cancer rates in Mexico went up 300%.
