Most colleges in Germany have options where you aren’t stuffed in a room with others unless you want to. It’s generally a tiny bit cheaper to stuff yourself in there but even then I don’t see the appeal unless you know your roommate. There’s probably less student housing but German universities are also more spread out, meaning that students have fewer reasons to live by the main campus.
