It was the 10yr anniversary of the Confederate flag coming down in South Carolina this year.
It came down in a storm of protests, persistent economic boycotts and finally a white supremacist terrorist attack at Mother Emanuel AME Church who took the official use of the Confederate as one more point of radicalization.
It wasn't until the horrible tragedy did the dam break, liberals and moderates finally questioning the States' values along with descendants of slavery.

A lot of times, I wonder how politically active were black folks in the 90s? How could we have built better than to reduce harm today? And I look back and realize how ahead of the curve so many average Black folks were at the time. They practiced significantly more discipline and commitment to low risk protest like boycotts than other forms imo.
