day 1 of watching french movies: La Haine (1995). A very harsh film about the spiral of hatred in the Paris suburbs. The best moment is when the protagonists have a heated argument, which is the emotional core of the movie, where everything boils down to "hatred breeds hatred", suddenly interrupted by an old man coming out of a toilet yelling, "Nothing like a good shit!" and telling one of the most unhinged life stories. Also, props for the "Fuck Le Pen" line.
