@malte@radikal.social @bradr@infosec.exchange @pietervdvn@en.osm.town Although from a degrowth perspective I agree that we need to consume less and not just substitute energy sources, the electrification of processes alone already increases efficiency by almost 3x. https://energysense.uillinois.edu/cold-climate-heat-pumps-work/ Think about the energy conversion rate of fossil fuel for human use in a gas heater vs an electric heat pump or in an electric vehicle vs a combustion engine. Although we need to tke into account the inpact of the materials required for electrification, there is quite some room for optimism. And the mining of fossil fuels is also not without impacts, we just got used to it. But heating, industry and transportation are all areas where a strong government regulation is required. And in Spain, electricity production is a government priority, but the other three areas are unfortunately not.
