A neighbor called in the middle of the night and let us know that someone going through our garbage set a smoldering fire in our black landfill container. (Probably not intentionally, but using an open flame for light or holding something that's burning while digging through mixed trash is still pretty reckless.) By the time we got dressed and outside, the police were already there, and the fire department showed up shortly afterwards to put out the embers and help to shovel the soppy mess back into the container. The person was detained by police, examined by paramedics, and detained. The house still smells a little like smoke And here I thought "Please touch your parent's rash and tell me if it feels hot" was going to be the weirdest thing that happened yesterday.
