I doubt anyone here needs this reminder but: The first person EVER diagnosed as autistic iirc passed away recently. My point is that you should remember while we have always existed there wasn't a name for us until fairly recently. Why is the diagnosis rate higher than it was 20 years ago? If I had to hazard a guess: in the short time science has recognized ASD they've learned more about it, so (hopefully) less people are slipping through the cracks. Remember though: if you don't have an official diagnosis or mustn't get officially diagnosed for whatever reason: if you self diagnosed yourself as autistic, you're autistic.
