It's important to be able to say no to people. Not just for your own sake, but for that of others too. There's an old friend I miss but that I can basically never see again. Why? Because they refused to ever reject anyone. So, over time, they surrounded themselves with ever more harmful people, either uncaring for others or actively seeking to take advantage, until it just wasn't safe for me to be around them any more. Not because of themselves, but the people that came with them.
