@dthompson@toot.cat I have never taken that train because every passenger disembarks and goes through customs one at a time. The schedule allots I think 2 hours for it. However, the vehicular crossings are optimized to process traffic efficiently. Crossing the border by train: one train per day in each direction. This is great if you don't have to be anywhere and can afford a hotel. Drive to Niagara Falls: 3-6 trains per day (seasonal). Unpredictable scheduling due to canal traffic. Drive to Burlington (~50 minutes by car): rail service every 30 minutes. This is as far from Toronto as you can be without being on CN's tracks. Drive to Airport (~80 minutes by car): rail service every 15 minutes. This arrangement is great for visitors to Toronto—drive as far as you care and take the train downtown. But if you live in the city, what are you going to do? Stage your car at the end of the line? Most people just drive. Also I have never seen the customs for cyclists staffed on the Canadian side, so you have to ride in traffic. It's pretty terrible unless you're with a big group.
