I don't want to encourage use of Rust, but Lisp/Scheme/ML/Erlang/ANY less-dangerous base language is ultimately the best way to prevent security bugs: Fix array access once in language, instead of in every function of every program, etc.
But I also don't think that'll happen for a lot of libraries, I've asserted before that C is a 10,000 year language. It's endemic in Human DNA now, like Herpes, all we can do is treat symptoms.
