#selfhosting #linux #ai It has become way easy to do computer stuff with AI. I always wanted to set up a server and put all my stuff there, web page, media server, self hosted apps... Work, family, mountains, ... I had no time to figure it out for myself before ai. But now I'm doing it! Bought a 200€ 12th gen Intel and first was Jellyfin! Brilliant! I use cloudflare for outside access, as I don't have a public IP. I thought of getting it, but maybe cloudflare helps with security too?

  • @Noisecolor@toot.community same! i don't know shit about fuck, but i learned how containers worked (in principle,) and i learned how VMs worked, and then started using ai to write me yaml and help with with command line stuff. i also use/ask it for documentation of what's been done and what is outstanding as next steps, it kind of acts like a receipt that i then archive. i end up with a current snapshot and a history of all the shit i did . i then use that output, to start next sessions with whatever ai

@Noisecolor@toot.community Congrats on getting your new server up! That's awesome. Re: Cloudflare Cloudflare help with protection from outside script kiddies, at the cost of becoming an internal threat who monitors everything coming in or going out of your server, with the ability to take it down whenever they want. Choose your threat model carefully, especially in these politically unstable times where companies get leaned on to comply with ideological agendas. Oh, and of you think you're too small to get hit by ideological agendas... that's why they're focusing on AI regulation right now - to scale ideological agendas. #Selfhosting #Cloudflare #Privacy #Security
