Steve Earle uses a Thumb pick like a flat pick sometimes, as well as fingers. Nick Lowe played bass with a pick and guitar sometimes without. I used a pick the first 40 years and now prefer fingers. I suggest doing what you feel and change whenever you want. Cheers.
