Paul McCartney has a very odd style as well, primarily because John forced him to switch from guitar to bass when Stuart Sutcliffe left. So very much a guitarist playing bass.
Not sure if you’ve heard but apparently Jimmy Page originally offered Ron Wood the bassist position in Led Zeppelin, to which Wood replied something like “no f*%~ing way, I’m a guitarist.” And Page didn’t want any competition with a second guitarist. 🤣
