The Xerox Alto was called "A Time Machine" in Michael Hiltzik's 1999 "The Dealers of Lightning". They built it as a computer that would be ready 10 years into the future.
Similarly, designing a new laptop today is a template for a 2nd generation laptop. When one designs a new laptop today, they are using the template from the first computer. That 2nd gen serves as a template for a 3rd generation laptop.
In my FemtoTX project, I detail a solar powered 386 or 586 AS a template for a faster one.

In order to believe a faster solar powered laptop is possible, it’s necessary to first build a “slow” one (by today’s plugged in standards).
