I am guilty of killing a man via Engel's concept of social murder, but I honestly don't feel any guilt at all.
I had a roommate who was abusive to the point that I was considering suicide. I hated him and wanted him dead.
Then his pattern of drunken abuse got him fired from his job, which he did from home. He NEVER left the house and that was oppressive as well.
After two months of paying his half of the internet bill twice and his half of the utilities twice I told my landlord he had to stop giving this guy chances, that he was never going to get his back rent from the guy.
And I took the router into my room and plugged my computer directly into the modem because the ONLY job this guy was willing to look for was one that allowed him to sit on his ass at home all day and get drunk.
My landlord finally kicked him out and in all probability he will die on the streets.
And I don't fucking care. Because it was the only way for me to escape an abusive situation because I certainly wasn't going to leave the home I have lived in for 10 years.
Two years of misery and abuse have come to an end and probably at the cost of this guy's life and honestly, fuck him. He should have moved a long time ago when I told him he was making me miserable.
I don't believe in landlords and homelessness and wish he had a safe place to go, just far away from me, but he didn't even have enough respect for me to find that safe place a long time ago when I told him he needed to get the fuck out of my house.
