In 1804 Soldner published a paper on the gravitational bending of light, predicting the same value (+/- some minor tech details) as Cavendish.
Despite some confusion over typos etc. Soldner (and Cavendish) did NOT predict the same result as GR.
However, their predictions WERE the same as Einstein’s original prediction in 1911! 4/9

Einstein's original prediction in 1911 was the same as Cavendish & Soldner (though he wasn't aware of Soldner's paper). Einstein's prediction essentially only took account of the curvature of time, not space. What? 5/9
