The 2026 ICM (International Congress of Mathematicians) will be held in July in Philadelphia, where I live. I&#39;d like to attend. The ICM allows a regular participant to co-register an “accompanying person”. I&#39;d like to be an “accompanying person”. If you plan to attend and would be willing to register me as an accompanying person, please DM me. I would of course pay the registration fee. I will also, if you like, treat you to dinner. I am a middle-aged computer programmer, formerly a math major, who has retained a serious interest in mathematics. Please circulate this notice to potentially interested parties. #icm2026 #icm

@mjd@mathstodon.xyz You probably know this, but just in case you don't, being registered as an "accompanying person" usually means access to the social events but not the main conference sessions. So yeah, it's a great idea if you want to hang out with other maths folk. I get why that may be fun. But if you want to get into the speaker sessions... check the small print

@mjd@mathstodon.xyz you know, it's very likely that you can just show up and attend any talks you want. I've never seen a math conference that, you know, checks registration to let you into the talks. Of course, I've also never been to the ICM, but I have attended regional AMS conferences and once the Joint Mathematical Meeting. I thought the registration fee was a little steep for a graduate student (specially one stretching the stipend to a family of three!) and didn't pay it. Nobody gave me any trouble.
