Earlier this year, I sat down for an extended interview with Lex Friedman on a variety of topics in mathematics, proof formalization, and AI. The edited (and nicely illustrated) form of the video, clocking in at over three hours, is now available: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUkBz-cdB-k

  • @tao@mathstodon.xyz I watched the video. The parts where you spoke were great. I can imagine a lot of folks getting value from many of the things you talked about. I particularly enjoyed the section on your self replicating liquid state machine as a toy model for Navier-Stokes blow up. It's just a tad concerning to see you interviewed by somebody who is a known grifter. This is a man who has represented himself falsely to the public for many years. He's also one or two degrees of separation away from some of the worst kinds of people. I ask this with the greatest respect for you and your work, but why are you associating yourself with this sort of person? I understand you have an academically driven interest in the intersection between mathematics and AI, but I fear that you might be doing your reputation harm in indulging folks like him. Ignore me, block me, or whatever, but please do consider the effects you are having on folks around the world.
