@StevenSavage@sfba.social I also think he makes a similar mistake as everyone in lamenting the decline of American hegemony. The effects of that decline, which Doctorow and others routinely point out, is our natural come uppance for our participation in said hegemony. If we don't pay that price, it's because "others" did, but make no mistake, it gets paid by someone and usually that someone lives in the place that is being exploited by imperial mechanisms, but eventually it's paid by everyone both on the outside and eventually the inside of the imperial core itself.
