Kangal - Soldier of the Steppe ... Historically, Kangal Dog has at times been referred to as Karabas or Karabash meaning black-head. For centuries it has successfully protected herds of sheep in Sivas region, against jackals, wolves and bears. Almost exclusively found in Sivas region until 80s, Kangal dogs can now be found all over Turkey. One common theory is that these dogs have come to Anatolia with migrating Turkic tribes from Asia in 11th Century CE. #archaeohistories
