@norootcause@hachyderm.io Shackleton’s (slightly) less disastrous Antarctic expedition, where he got a party within 90 miles of the South Pole but turned back because he knew they didn’t have enough food and would die, was known as the Nimrod expedition after the ship that took them to Antarctica.
There are similarities with Capt. Ahab’s ship Pequod, probably to be expected given the nature of sailing at that time. Nimrod was also a whaler/sealer, and also later sank with the loss of all hands.
