I really like saying the phrase "absolutely hate", and I absolutely hate it when my conservative family members say resistance is futile to discourage me from activism to keep me safe. Yes, we are in a very dark age. But here's a bit of bright side that made my life better: I have a PhD from a prestigious institution that did not allow female students a few decades ago. Most prestigious universities did not allow female students or would not grant them degrees not too long ago. OK, academia sucks but that prestige brought my family pride, and it's a result of resistance from the past. I have a living wage and I'm not under constant surveillance from my employer, thanks to resistance a few years ago that formed a union. I ride a bike and race the guys, and have comfortable women's cycling shorts and saddle, thanks to resistance against sexism in cycling over the decades. In the 1890s, whether girls should ride a bike was controversial. I can walk the streets not appearing or behaving the most feminine way. I'm not judged for not wearing makeup or not wearing heels. Thanks to feminist and queer resistance over the decades. Our rebel ancestors sacrificed a lot for the causes, and now we're enjoying the results, and must defend them. Resistance is NOT futile!
