@joepbc@mastodon.social @catmisgivings@stranger.social There's no irony in that at all. Personally posted videos are 'safe' as the poster gets to cherry pick what the world sees of them. IRL interactions are (or used to be) full of what we called "unguarded moments". You could be vulnerable or pathetic etc. in the company of others because you knew the inclinations of those few people in your immediate vicinity. TBH, people back in 20c could be a LOT more acid and back-biting IRL. The blast radius of those negative moments was pretty small, and biting back didn't require a college degree in communications. Note that the filming moments Leahy is describing are in themselves very "polite"; its when they are posted that things can get nasty.
