Bard and Botstein are characterizing this as a "retirement" (he's 79), with all the usual long-time faculty/administrator retirement trappings, like remaining on the faculty and living on campus.
I don't see how any successor president is meant to function while Bostein is still on campus. Following a fifty-year tenure would be a hard act under any circumstances.
