@kfogel@kfogel.org I think to a fair extent it was complexified a long time ago, with things like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Sockpuppetry . I don't know how deep you are into wikipedia culture but one feature of it is that there are a LOT of policy documents, with various degree of officialness and things like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Ignore_all_rules which, on a good day, prevents things from getting too legalistic (and I suppose on a bad day makes everything seem very whim based).

@kfogel@kfogel.org As for https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Assume_good_faith , applying it is pretty context dependent but sometimes I read it as "act as if good faith is present even though (a) you suspect that is a bit unlikely this time and (b) it doesn't affect the actual actions you take, in terms of reverting edits, proposing deletion, etc"

@soaproot@sfba.social I try to learn the rules that matter for whatever I'm trying to do -- basically, I'm trying to be a good citizen in a country run by lawyers without making the investment to become a lawyer myself. I've got a long edit history, but, you know, that and 50 cents will get you on the bus.
