@below@mastodon.social for a long while it was just websites setting it up wrong. Then there is also a very hilarious thing about MySQL implementing UTF-8 wrong initially. Which means you need to know not to use the utf-8 setting when setting up MySQL but whatever they named the corrected replacement.
