  • @Techaltar@mas.to Why is it called K2, the 2nd highest mountain? Why are they not aiming for the top?

@Techaltar@mas.to thank you for such a considered answer, especially the angle on Apple seeing this as a way to gain market share. I was surprised to see you mention Chromebooks as contributing to the "blood in the water" though ... I've assumed the markets for those will only grow.

@Techaltar@mas.to They're still tone deaf. They should be fixing all the crap they broke recently, instead of rewriting one of the few parts of the OS that haven't been enshittified yet. Microslop will be Microslop... For the Q&A: I don't really have a fully-formed question, but I'm thinking about the upcoming Steam hardware and how it feels different from all other tech, even though it's not really all that different. Maybe it's just the fact that there's no shareholders? Thoughts?

@Techaltar@mas.to question for nebula: What happens to open source development and players like GrapheneOS after google effectively kills non-signed app development? Do you see them doing the same for webpages using their SEO or straight blocking specific webpages in Chrome in the future? Any chance for EU to step in as an anti monopolistic move, or are they misleaded into thinking it's all about our security? Do you foresee google alternatives (I.e. huawei) to get stronger in open source community, since verification happens at google play services layer, not android itself? @Techaltar@mas.to Question for Nebula! How do you feel about the current state of AI and the public reaction to it? I feel like there's been a big shift, even in talk of the bubbly-ness, since Claude Code and other similar tools released. But seeing Anthropic might have a 1.2T$ valuation also seems wild! I also feel like left leaning/progressive sentiment is still often that AI is useless or can only do harm. What's your stance? Is there an effective way to incorporate AI into a push for social good?
