Just food for thought. I'm comfortable playing around with Linux systems enough that I deal with this, but for wider acceptance as a desktop OS there should be more polish than just making a nice GUI.

@toroidalcore@masto.hackers.town I wish I could offer advice but all I can do is commiserate.. Linux is just *terrible* under any amount of memory pressure. Like you found, vm.swappiness can help, but even with tuning that it's leagues away from Windows and MacOS. Systemd's OOM killer is borderline worthless, too - I've had times where I run memory-leaky games and the OOM killer *never* kills them. It's always some other random process.
