Regardless of if humanity makes it through all this, I think one of the saddest parts about destroying the atmosphere, poisoning the waters and running them dry, melting the glaciers, using up all the sand, committing xenocide on countless species, fencing the wild, destroying the rainforest, just, all of it... One of the saddest parts is just that this is all we will have built. And none of us even wanted any of it in the first place, we just knew that we were supposed to go to work and pay our bills.

    @revoluciana@chaosfem.tw this hit hard for me today. One of the books that did the most to open my eyes to this exact systemic, banality-of-evil, trapped-in-society-scale-structures nature of all of history is The Empire of Necessity by Greg Grandin.
