@_bapt_@mastodon.social I guess, the killing pictured below (in a virtual machine with ~2 GB memory) was unrelated to job scheduling.
Worked around, hopefully, by giving 4x as much memory to the machine; and
sysctl vm.pageout_oom_seq=120
