@ozzelot@mstdn.social @nclm@mastodon.social @sheepfilms@mastodon.social I assume it's crosspollination with electrical engineering where you'll see "busbars", big bits of copper you hang multiple devices off of to share power. There's a lot of overlap between early computer design and giant industrial machines, makes sense to differentiate a "data bus" from the "power bus".

@ozzelot@mstdn.social @nclm@mastodon.social @sheepfilms@mastodon.social I have no idea if it's true, but I the literal interpretation (bus=>thing which moves stuff between fixed points) seems fairly reasonable to me given a data bus moves data between some number of points.
