@michcampbell@fediscience.org Yes, it’s baffling. Excel has been wrecking date data for decades. I collect a lot of data and stay well away from Excel.
Spreadsheets in general are dangerously flexible things. They need to be used with validation, which it seems almost no Excel users do.

@joncounts@mastodon.nz I'm familiar with the date-wrecking behaviour, this was the first time I'd seen it produce two different formats in the same column 😭 I agree, I tend to stay away but sometimes I just want to have a quick look over the data...
