@fallenhitokiri@social.screamingatmyscreen.com SQLite is an excellent piece of software, but it doesn't fit my description. I think SQL's time is past. We need new models, made for today's hardware. And I want a new license, one that lets you use the software only if you are building a community. I don't want to let software continue being appropriated by corporations. As for where federation should live - depends on what you mean by "app layer" and "storage". I think it best fits at the query language level.

  • @chrisg@fosstodon.org SQL based system are doing wonderful on todays hardware. And they’ve been tested at basically any scale for decades, anything trying to replace them would IMHO need a tremendous amount of testing and effort to even come close to the understanding and reliability we are seeing in todays systems. What exactly are the issues? I think I’m missing something here.

  • @chrisg@fosstodon.org why do you say that "SQL's time is past" ? If anything usage is growing, and even in recent past (pun unintended), new products have been cropping up e.g. SingleStore, and Snowflake to start with.
