@scotdowser@mastodon.scot I have an old hp machine that I want to resurrect with Linux, but cannot remember the password and cannot seem to make a bootable usb of Trinity rescue kit on the Mac…. #frustrated. #mac #recovery

@twoowls73@mastodon.scot If you're just going to overwrite it with Linux you won't need the password. Just flash the Linux iso onto a USB with Balena Etcher and boot it from that (may need to change BIOS settings). (Look at me, I sound like I know what I'm talking about after one day playing with Linux!) :ablobcatrave: #Linux

@twoowls73@mastodon.scot @scotdowser@mastodon.scot I had an old laptop that I tried to install 6 flavours of Linux on (including the smallest). Unfortunately every one failed, eventually had to admit defeat - suspected the 'hard' drive (which was actually a memory board) had failed. Anyway, will be putting Linux on Desktop, then try my other laptop (which used to dual boot Debian Linux/Win 10 until Windows trashed the boot loader).
