Holy fucking shit if you're gonna to critique it that's fine but at least try to be realistic.
I'm just going to speak from personal experience here. Last release we committed a bit more code than usual to create web components (specific ones to add functionality). These were already requested and had timelines. Claude opus created boilerplate, restructured json, and laid the groundwork. Most tweaking was done by hand. There's no more maintenance required for any of these components than if they were hewn by hand. In that same release, though, we also got
Unit tests on other components
A few components had their scss cleaned up
We made a start on an actual design system
Documentation (that was created by AI) was updated
Maybe luckily for us, there are only so many new features that can be requested in a month or reviewed by stakeholders so after I got the new stuff out I had time to actually get into the cleanup that's been bugging me for a long time. I'm done with dev on this release now and I've roped a friend into working with me to modernize some components that used modals update them to use dialogs. They worked just fine before but they'll be a bit better now and scss won't be the mess it was. I'm reinvesting what time I've saved to make other stuff better. That saves on maintenance cost in the long run.
* My mileage likely varies because this is just HTML/css/vue. Is really not complicated stuff and it follows the same pattern so Claude is just making license plates rather than actually having to "think"

@Andy@zoner.work is "making license plates" a turn of phrase 👀

@Andy@zoner.work every time a new model comes out i try it with the same test every single time. i give it a retracted white paper from the CAESAR cipher competition and tell it to just make it. they get closer each time but have yet to produce anything that round trips
