#WritersCoffeeClub 30th April: How was this month for you, in terms of writing? Terrible, and then suddenly very good. I don't write with a road-map. I write with a compass. And I need that compass to point true. What I mean by this: I am only a pantser in the sense that I start writing without a plot. I still do a lot of preliminary work. For example, it is extremely difficult for me to write a story until I have identified something I very desperately want to say with it. I had a lot of frustrating false starts and tail-chasing and indecision this month. And then I found it. My compass. What I wanted to say. And ever since then it's been easy. As easy as writing gets, anyway.

and yes I do find it very funny that I apparently need to be very meaningful and passionate about a story that starts with someone feeding corpses into a grinder but the thing is, I write these things because of what I believe. the world is dark and grim and fucking ridiculous. and yet, there are still things within us that the darkness cannot eat.
