@violetmillie@gts.queersynergy.com this requires special hardware. i am using an analog tuner provided by my PCI analog TV/radio capture card. obtaining an antenna is as simple as plugging in a long RF cable and make the other end touch some metal. these days, you can also grab a USB radio tuner for cheaper, and do the same thing. however, in order to listen to radio.... this isn't necessary. i only use this because i can. it is possible to listen to many radio stations via the internet with most music players. this is called online radio/internet radio and it's only a matter of plugging in a link for example, i sometimes listen to a station called PARTY VIBE RADIO (https://www.partyvibe.com/). it is a drum&bass radio. in order to play it, try running mpv with this link: http://94.130.242.5:8004/stream mainstream radio stations however are different. i believe this is because they want you to use their streaming services or something. despite this, there are some websites floating around that allow you to listen to many radio stations, including mainstream ones. by inspecting these websites, you can find the underlying online radio stream links. here's what i found for RTP: RTP Antena 1: https://streaming-live.rtp.pt/liveradio/antena180a/playlist.m3u8 RTP Antena 2: https://streaming-live.rtp.pt/liveradio/antena280a/playlist.m3u8 RTP Antena 3: https://streaming-live.rtp.pt/liveradio/antena380a/playlist.m3u8 notice how mpv no longer works here. this is because these radio streams are different. they are no longer just an mp3/ogg/whatever stream, they are a playlist containing chunks of the audio stream that change constantly. this means you need more specialized software to handle this case, like vlc (i believe anything that uses the gstreamer backend could also work). i do not know why RTP does things this way. conclusion: making a radio station player for portuguese stations is a matter of just filling a playlist (see "m3u" or "pls") with a bunch of these online radio stream links, and then loading that playlist into an music/audio player.
