The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill, 2026 — Bill No. 79 — has been introduced in Lok Sabha. If passed, it will strip away the right to self-identify, force mandatory medical board examinations to "prove" your gender, narrow the definition of who counts as transgender, and require hospitals to report your surgeries to the government.
