@maryjane@social.coletivos.org We do waste lots and lots of processing power on very much unnecessary stuff.
However, as the Wikipedia article notes, "The onboard AGC systems were secondary, as NASA conducted primary navigation with mainframe computers in Houston."

@danimrich@mastodon.social still, something tells me that the average smartphone in 2026 has more compute power and memory than NASA's mainframes at the time.
