All of these behaviors are state sanctioned violence. Organized and state sanctioned violence is hallmark of the US since its founding. 3/8

Because the ongoing refusal to acknowledge this basic fact of 1) prevents the formation of real multicultural alliances; 2) allows allies to view harms as those that affect only their communities and not the ones that look nothing like them; and 3) it allows folks to continue to avoid doing of the painful intersectional analysis of the harms racism creates. 4/8

@fulanigirl@mstdn.social Not trying to be a dick (and if you'd prefer I delete I absolutely will!) but I'd question the use of 'attempted' here? I was under the impression there did not have to be 100% eradication of a people for the atrocities to be considered genocide; most genocides across Europe and Africa had survivors. But they still were very much that. A huge proportion of the First Nations were wiped out and cultural genocide alongside literal murder-genocide means very few survive, relatively, today. https://hmh.org/library/research/genocide-of-indigenous-peoples-guide/

@fulanigirl@mstdn.social 100% I think too many people think of this era of ICE as something new or different rather than just a scaled up evolution of the same systems that have been around for hundreds of years. We never actually stopped doing colonialism we just got better at it.
