every time i read about sega's history in the 90s, i find out another shocking revelation that makes me wonder how the company even functioned
the american and japanese branches acted more like rivals to each other than partners, even though in reality neither would have achieved success without the other
but then i look at some of the decisions each branch made, and honestly i can see why
sega of america, apparently, really liked meddling in japan's games -- not only did they replace most of sonic cd's soundtrack, but today i learned they also tried to do this with sonic 2 -- or at least that's what the tv tropes article on yuji naka says
if you want to listen to what they wanted to replace masato nakamura's legendary soundtrack with, here's a taste, and i apologize for that
and sega of japan, likewise, couldn't tolerate a bit of downtime between consoles, so they were the ones who came up with the 32x in order to compete with... the atari jaguar (this time, it were the americans who were right and thought this was a stupid idea)
so yeah, i can see why they were at each other's throats so much
