I went to see Cold Cave last night, and in the way of certain ends of Brooklyn, the (lovely) venue was only accessible via a couple of buses from downtown. Ah, Red Hook! This meant that lots of people going to see Cold Cave got filtered through the same narrow transit funnel. This meant that the B61 became... der gothbus. I realized it fast: a generous fall of dyed-black hair here, a lovingly handstitched Bauhaus patch there. We all figured out we were going to the same place pretty quickly.

Another guy joined our very monochrome group and seemed sheepish about looking like he'd just come from work. He gestured at the rest of us and said, "I mean, I didn't, like, get to do it all the way up." One of our number, wearing black leather pants and a few yards of chains falling beautifully from them, got very serious and said, "Man, you know who else didn't wear black eyeliner? Ian Curtis." The rest of the night could've only been good after that moment of very specific generosity <3
