Iirc he was not happy with the fediverse experience for someone with a large following, which is really too bad. He tried for a long time but got tired of the abuse.

I really don’t think the fediverse can really work for celebrity microblogging. Corpo platforms inherently value reach and boosting popular users, while the fediverse has no profit incentive to appeal to them. It’s why I always liked the idea of lemmy over mastadon: conversations matter more than personalities
