@flwwhtrbt@mastodon.social The Chu IIs are so great for the price, but the cable is a crime against humanity. Snag yourself a cheap braided cable. It won’t affect the sound, but the better flexibility and lack of shape memory is a massive quality of life improvement. 🤙

@flwwhtrbt@mastodon.social Great article. I'll wait until you're done with the series to pick one, but the Echo looks pretty solid. You rarely see reviews that tell about the limitations for numbber of songs. Some can't handle more than a few thousand.

I have to say that no gapless playback for a dedicated device like that is a deal breaker for me personally though. I basically only buy music on Bandcamp these days, with the occasional Qobuz purchase. Then I stream it all from my self-hosted gonic server (Subsonic fork) to either DSub2000 on my phone or to a desktop Linux app that my brother developed, so I'm one of the odd ones who've never actually used Spotify at all, not even once. Looking forward to see what more you dig up!

Personally, I've never committed fully to streaming and have always maintained a local music library on whatever device I had to hand - Creative Zen > Creative Zen Mini > Succession of Android Phones. Initially it was manual sync, then Dropbox (via Dropsync) and now it's Syncthing, but I have always carted around my music with me and only augmented with Spotify for discovery. I really don't fancy adding another device to my pocket, no matter how fancy.
