People have so thoroughly lost the plot with Markdown and complex processing pipelines and the fact that (thanks to GitHub's GFM) almost nobody takes care to make sure the plain text Markdown source is actually readable, because they just treat it as terser markup language instead of a format that was *intended& to be readable in rendered and pre-rendered forms.
