@wbpeckham@techhub.social sigh, I feel your pain. There is a lot of legacy about. But the real old-school ASCII will be 7-bit, not 8-bit. Fun fact: any data which is ASCII-compliant is also Unicode UTF-8 compliant, because the latter is by design a subset of the former. So, you probably use UTF-8 all the time! :-)
