@bullivant@mastodon.ie the irony of helping defeating Nazis only to die because of Nazi like practices by your own government... Always remember bullshit ideology is never reserved to just one nation or fraction. It can be found everywhere so keep your eyes open and speak about it.

@bullivant@mastodon.ie "Gross indecency" sounds like he'd been doing the helicopter on the street, next to the kindergarten as the kids were out. Not that his house was burgled and he went to tell to the police the most likely suspect was an acquaintance of his date of that day. (I suspect that as Turing was of wealthy background, he subscripted to the conservative idea that there are those who laws bind and those they enable. And was suprised that ACAB; you shouldn't talk to the police.)

@bullivant@mastodon.ie We are not talking about the middle ages. We are talking about the 20th century. 😥

@bullivant@mastodon.ie If this is meant to inform readers that are unfamiliar with him, it might be helpful to explicitly state what, exactly, got him the gross indecency conviction.

@bullivant@mastodon.ie no allegedly involved. The story it was an accident came out over 20 years later when the Ultra secret finally broke, and suddenly the tory gov looked like shit heads for driving him to it.

@bullivant@mastodon.ie Alan Turing was a genius and a hero, who saved the world from fascism. Its a pity the people he saved betrayed him. The world needs more Alan Turing-s and less Donald Trump-s

@bullivant@mastodon.ie Specifically one of his last letters before ending himself referred to the side effect of chemical castration causing him to grow breasts. All for being caught with a consenting adult man. And we honor him with a movie starring a man too homophobic or too pandering to the Chinese market to ever touch another man throughout. Revolting. Can't even look at Cumberbatch now.

@bullivant@mastodon.ie Hit with the same bullshit law that sent Oscar Wilde down. RIP. Hormone therapy unfortunately makes it sound gentler than it is. It was public, state-ordered forced feminization. The hormone therapy gay men were forced to take, often also called "chemical castration", was estrogen therapy. It was designed to destroy his normal sex drive. In addition, it causes cis men to grow breasts, weaken physically, and experience the same crippling gender dysphoria trans people go through. As a trans guy, I really feel for him.

@bullivant@mastodon.ie England's treatment of Touring is egregiously dispicable (provable, documented, and known). He helped save Europe, gave us computers, and We killed him in thanks for his service. Bravo. * One of my hills to die on.

@bullivant@mastodon.ie TIL that Turing ran an under 3 hours marathon! I did not know that.

@bullivant@mastodon.ie hormonal physical changes… I believe the term is chemical castration.
