In Russian we have "ни рыба, ни мясо", which stands for "they're neither fish nor meat". Apparently, it means that they're beyond average, nothing particularly interesting. I think the Fedi equivalent would be "they're neither a fox nor a cat" (Dragon and dog guys, I remember about you, don't be angry)
