@eljojo@ruby.social Having "direct digital mammography" commercially available only happened about 20 years ago, then we needed affordable GPUs, which happened almost a whole decade later. For a while we've been seeing more systems doing tomography (multiple exposures at different angles and 3D image reconstruction) and I'm really curious to see how automatic detection will be able to use this data. It's still new enough that human clinicians haven't had the time to accumulate a lot of experience yet. I'm no longer in that field so I don't even know if anyone is actually working on that.
