@Ardvaark@mastodon.world as I think through this: the math is probably upside down no matter what. Even if you found a vacant (enough) facility, the cost per square foot probably assumes a density you can't reach because of the issue noted in the previous post.

@Ardvaark@mastodon.world also when I worked in data centers all the cabling was copper. If you assume that "modern" requires fiber to the cabinet, then I guess the modernization cost would also have to include that. If you have overhead cabling the cost of new run isn't going to be too bad (especially with in-house techs), but if it's a facility with cabling under raised floors, it's a huge pain.
